Abstract
The increasing worldwide demand for sustainable and safe energy has driven the pursuit of hybrid renewable energy systems that combine solar and wind power. Yet, there are also many studies which overlook real-time optimization, which are not carried out on a system level with a holistic system model or which do not take economic consideration into account. This paper proposes an effective hybrid solar–wind power system, which can provide a sustainable power supply by the feedback mechanism of the resource availability, the load demand and the operational efficiency. Using the practicalities of solar irradiance and metropolitan wind patterns and depositions complementing statuses, the proposed approach achieves reliable energy supply, minimized power loss, and shorter system idle time. Advanced prediction models and optimization algorithms are used to optimize performance metrics, while still maintaining scalability in different geographical and environmental scenarios. A techno-economic analysis confirms the effectiveness and impact of the system, and the applicability of the proposed system for the rural electrification and microgrid operation is shown. The results show the proposed methodology exceeds classical isolated systems and identifies important limitations in current hybrid energy investigations. This work paves the way for robust and sustainable energy infrastructures towards global renewable energy objectives.
